News - SCC attains a third consecutive International Safety Award

< Previous story |  Next story >

SCC Ltd is pleased to announce that for the third consecutive year it has received the coveted British Safety Council 'International Safety Award'.

John Grimshaw the Health & Safety Manager comments:

'The continuing efforts of everyone in the company from manufacturing to construction, work place to boardroom and to quote the company ethos to 'design and build' and all processes in between, has really encouraged a strong, pro-active atmosphere that is definitely conducive in maintaining a health and safety management system, the continual improvements made with ideas flowing from all parties involved to bolster an already strong health and safety system is truly exceptional.

This type of holistic approach to health and safety has enabled the company to achieve a year on year improvement for reduction of accidents, with an emphasis on designing out issues in the first instance.

However we do not rest on our laurels here at SCC and acknowledge that complacency is something that can never be permitted to enter the safety remit and continue to implement improvements where and when required in a timely manner to constantly ensure we are at the forefront of best practice'.

The Award Scheme

The International Safety Awards scheme is designed to recognise and reward companies that have achieved success in reducing accidents. Only companies such as SCC Ltd, who achieve accident incident rates which are better than the industry average for their sector are eligible to apply.

The company was required to submit a completed entry providing:

  • A number of  key documents relating to health and safety in the organisation - including safety management system, risk assessments , method statements, hierarchy of control amongst others.

  • The level of qualification of the safety advisory role of the company - in this instance the Health and Safety manager.

  • A demonstration of the board level commitment to health and safety, and

  • Details of 3 significant health and safety advances in the organisation for the qualifying year.
